Funded Since

Dr. Alia Crum is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Stanford University and the Principal Investigator of the Stanford Mind & Body Lab. She received her B.A. from Harvard University in 2005 and her Ph.D. from Yale University in 2012. Her doctoral thesis, entitled "ReThinking Stress: The Role of Mindsets in Determining the Stress Response," was supervised by Dr. Peter Salovey.

Dr. Crum's research focuses on how psychological mindsets and perceptions can influence human behavior, as well as physical and mental health outcomes. Her groundbreaking work has demonstrated that our beliefs and expectations can significantly impact health, often to the same extent as traditional medical interventions.

Dr. Crum's studies have covered a wide range of topics, including the impact of mindset on cancer patients' well-being, the effectiveness of food allergy treatments, doctor-patient interactions, reframing activities as exercise, genetic risk factors, food perception and hormone production, media influences on eating habits, and the role of positive mindset during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Her research has been published in top scientific journals and featured in mainstream media worldwide. Dr. Crum has received numerous prestigious awards, including the NIH New Innovator Award (2016), the Rising Star Award from the Association for Psychological Science (2017), and the Early Career Researcher Award from the International Positive Psychology Association (2019).
