Organization
Fatty Acid Research Institute
Purpose
To determine how prenatal consumption of fatty acids impacts childhood development.
Dr. William Harris's research at the Fatty Acid Research Institute centers on the pivotal role of fatty acids in human health, particularly their impact on metabolic and cardiovascular conditions. By exploring the biochemical pathways and mechanisms through which fatty acids influence cellular functions, he aims to uncover the connections between dietary fats and various health outcomes.
Dr. Harris founded the Fatty Acid Research Institute four years ago to accelerate the discovery of the health effects of fatty acids, most notably, the long chain omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. Over his 44-year research career, he has published more than 400 papers focused on fatty acids and health.
The Tiny Foundation is proud to support Dr. Harris's recent study of the connection between the Omega-3 fatty acids (and Vitamin D) and early childhood development. This study measures levels of these nutrients in babies’ cord blood and compares them with Mullen Scores in children, aiming to identify how maternal nutrition influences developmental outcomes in early life.
Dr. Harris's work has been transformational in advancing research and public awareness about the importance of fatty acids in nutrition. By merging innovative science with practical strategies, he empowers individuals to make informed dietary choices for better health.
