Purpose
To curtail racism against the Maori in New Zealand through educational programs.
Tauiwi Tautoko is an educational intervention, community, and set of techniques to support effective anti-racist conversations in New Zealand. Tauiwi Tautoko trains tauiwi (non-Māori) to tautoko (support) Te Tiriti transformation by challenging anti-Māori racism within tauiwi communities. While its approach is useful in in-person conversations, it focuses primarily on addressing anti-Māori racism on social media and the comments section. Since its founding, it has aimed to humanize the ugliest of online spaces, shift problematic views, and change the public discourse.
