The Afghan Women's Organization (AWO) provides settlement services, with a special focus on women, their families, refugees, and people who have experienced war and persecution. The AWO welcomes newcomers from around the world, assisting them in the first stages of their settlement process, including finding a home & work, learning English, and navigating Canada’s legal system and health care.

To meet the ever-changing needs of newcomers, programming includes a range of activities that have resulted in more women and their families receiving essential services, building a network of peers, and engaging in their communities.

AWO’s staff and volunteers go to extraordinary lengths to ensure that isolated women and seniors are able to participate in programming. All members of the newcomer community must feel included and welcome, in service to AWO’s overall goal to support newcomers in living healthy, productive lives.
