Purpose
To provide temporary shelter to homeless individuals in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
Crab Park Tent City was formerly a community of homeless individuals located in Crab Park, a public park in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Started in 2021, it was Vancouver’s only sanctioned homeless encampment. The tent city became a focal point for advocacy around the issue of homelessness, calling attention to the lack of affordable housing and the need for better support for those living without shelter. In November 2024, the tent city closed after all individuals living there were offered housing through various outreach initiatives.
